ALPENA — A student was taken into custody Friday morning after bringing a knife to Alpena High School, according to the Alpena Police Department.

Per an Oct. 24 news release, the incident occurred during the first hour of the school day when the student called their teacher to their desk and disclosed that they had brought a knife to school. Following protocol, the teacher called for security assistance and evacuated the classroom.

Alpena City Police responded, confiscated the knife, and removed the student from the building. The juvenile was placed into protective custody.

No students, staff or law enforcement officers were injured, police said. Officials described the situation as an isolated incident and said there is no ongoing threat to students or staff.
