PORTLAND, Conn. (WTNH) — A Portland man is facing eight sexual assault-related charges stemming from an investigation beginning in July, according to police.

Matthew Sheltra, 37, was charged with: • Third-degree assault, physical injury • First-degree threatening, display of a firearm • Second-degree strangulation/suffocation • First-degree sexual assault, use or threat of force • First-degree aggravated sexual assault • Third-degree sexual assault, use or threat of force • First-degree kidnapping, injury/sexual abuse • First-degree unlawful restraint

He is being held on a $500,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Friday.
