A NEW squad of police in Tamworth is one step closer after officers were interviewed for the proactive crime positions.
The former Western RES team, or regional enforcement squad, was disbanded earlier this year after the majority of the team based out of Tamworth transferred out of the unit into other roles within the force.
Now, the squad is being resurrected in a new form to home in on crime and be a proactive force on the streets that can be deployed across the Oxley Police District and into other areas.
In an interview with ACM, Assistant Commissioner Andrew Holland - the head of the Western Region - confirmed the interviews with prospective officers were conducted late in September.
"So we've got people that have been selected and they're in the process of coming," he said.
