WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — A northwest Kansas police department is expecting a lot of visitors this weekend and wants to assure them that there's nothing to worry about.

Around 27 cross-country teams will be meeting on Saturday in Ellis for a regional competition. At the same time, the Ellis Police Department will be conducting firearms training at the firing range.

Although the range is outside city limits, it will be conducted a half-mile from the regional meet, which is being held at the Ellis Golf Club. The firearms training will take place from 10 a.m. to noon.

Ellis police want to assure residents and visitors that there is no danger to the public. The firearms training is being conducted under the supervision of a certified firearms instructor and in a safe, controlled manner.
