Construction will start soon on a building in Owen Sound that will provide supported independent living to 10 local adults with developmental disabilities.

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Friday morning for the new Community Living Owen Sound and District project at 1170 3rd Ave. E., which will be the first of its kind for the local agency.

“We are very excited that individuals will have their own space to call their home,” Community Living Owen Sound and District chief executive officer Michele Bell said from the site after speeches and the groundbreaking ceremony.

“That is the beauty of this, that each individual will have their own space with their own key to their own apartment and then on the main floor there will be a common space where we can cook together
