SHELBY COUNTY, Mo. (WGEM) - A Shelby County man is hospitalized Friday after a neighbor saved his life Thursday evening when a fire broke out on Shelby County Road 470.

According to the Shelbina Fire Protection District, at 5:27 p.m., they responded to a report of a structure fire with entrapment.

Firefighters said when they arrived on scene, the house was fully engulfed.

Firefighters reported a neighbor pulled the only occupant, a man, from the home.

According to firefighters, the man was flown to University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.

Firefighter said the house and five acres of land were destroyed by the fire.
