PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (ABC22/FOX44) - The City of Plattsburgh on Friday announced a new state grant with keeping MacDonough Park a centerpiece of its downtown for years to come.
“MacDonough Park is a treasured part of our community - a place where history, recreation, and natural beauty meet," said Mayor Wendell Hughes.
The Saranac River in Plattsburgh has not experienced major floods in recent years, but the retaining wall that separates it from the low-lying MacDonough Park is deteriorating in sections. Strengthening the retaining wall will also help protect the MacDonough Monument located in the park, which commemorates the final naval battle of the War of 1812.
