MORGAN COUNTY, Ala. ( WAFF ) - A Decatur man was found guilty on Friday for a murder he committed in 2021.

The jury in the case deliberated for an hour on Thursday before heading home for the night and continuing to deliberate on Friday morning.

They found Spencer Harwell guilty of shooting and killing Frankie Smith.

Harwell claimed self-defense for the murder.

The jury heard three days of testimony , hundreds of pieces of evidence, and closing arguments leading up to deliberation and finding Harwell guilty.

Harwell was also found guilty of trafficking meth.
