LANSING, Mich. (WILX) -Division on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. is keeping the federal government shut down, impacting critical services for some Mid-Michigan families.
The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services announced Thursday it has been ordered to temporarily pause distribution of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program dollars, by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
One Lansing business owner is stepping up to ease the burden for the community.
“I mean I instantly felt really bad for people,” said DeAnna Brown.
When she found out more than a million Michigan residents will soon go without food assistance because of the federal government shutdown, she said her heart sank.
She relied on those programs to support her family when she was a single mom.
