After a 14-win 2024 season with current Seattle Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold, the Minnesota Vikings elected to go with J.J. McCarthy under center after he missed all of his rookie season with a meniscus tear in his right knee.

McCarthy started the first two games this season, going 1-1 before missing the last five games with a right ankle injury. In his absence, veteran Carson Wentz has taken over, accumulating a 2-3 record with six TDs and five interceptions, the latest sign of a major flop at QB for the Vikings.

While McCarthy did little to stand out with three total TDs and three interceptions in his two starts, ESPN NFL analyst Peter Schrager believes McCarthy is under more pressure than any other QB1.
