Island Health issued an overdose advisory for the Greater Victoria and Sooke areas on Friday afternoon.
The health authority asked residents to keep an eye on friends and family members who use unregulated substances due to an “increased risk” of drug poisoning in the area.
Island Health recommends that people do not use drugs alone so they can keep an eye on one another.
If you do use alone, let someone know ahead of time so they can check on you or download the Lifeguard app or call the National OD Response Service at 1-888-688-6677.
Island Health also recommends that people start low and go slow, only use one substance at a time, and know their tolerance.
People can also get their drugs checked at the Substance facility in Victoria at 1802 Cook Street or visit one of the local over
