Backup quarterback Mac Jones will make his fourth consecutive start for the 49ers and his sixth of the season on Sunday.

The 49ers on Friday ruled out Brock Purdy with a toe injury that has bothered him since Week 1 of the season. That opens the way for Jones to make another start.

Jones will be up against one of the top defenses in the NFL, as the Houston Texans enter the game allowing a league-low 14.7 points per game. Adrian Martinez will serve as the 49ers’ backup quarterback.

The 49ers are 4-1 this season in games Jones has started. He has completed 130 of 194 pass attempts (67 percent) for 1,404 yards with six touchdowns, four interceptions and a passer rating of 89.8.
