KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Leawood Police Department (LPD) shared an update on their investigation into the fatal crash that took the life of a 10-year-old boy earlier this month.
LPD said that their investigation, which included multiple interviews with the driver involved in the crash, concluded the "driver's actions were not a contributing factor in the crash."
The investigation also showed that on October 13, 10-year-old Duke Ommert was crossing Lee Boulevard from the east side of the road in Leawood when he was hit by a vehicle heading south. Ommert was wearing a helmet, riding an e-scooter.
The driver of the vehicle that hit Ommert remained on the scene and cooperated with police throughout the investigation, per LPD and multiple eyewitnesses.
