A stop work order was issued for construction in Market Square on Thursday, though no delays to construction are anticipated.
According to Agency Counter, the city’s website that tracks building permits, the work stoppage was issued on Thursday after an investigation found that work on the steel foundation was being performed without proper permitting.
Market Square is currently under renovation as part of Gov. Josh Shapiro’s $600 million Downtown revitalization efforts. Dubbed the Market Square Modernization project, the new plan hopes to make the square more lively and walkable with an open-air pavilion, widened sidewalks and limiting traffic to just one side.
