AROUND THE OZARKS (KY3) -As the temperatures drop, medical professionals say the number of people going to the hospital for burn treatment rises.

This is because people are turning on their fireplaces for the first time or lighting up a fire pit to stay warm outside.

Experts advise using caution anytime you’re around a gas-fired appliance or when lighting up firewood. If you get hurt, don’t wait to get help.

“All burns would need to be seen at an E.R., which can then communicate with the burn center if needed,“ said Krisi Causa, DO, Burn Medical Director at Mercy Hospital Springfield. “Immediately, you would want to get it cooled down, stop the burning, and then seek medical attention immediately.”
