HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Foodbanks in Hampton Roads report increased need amid the government shutdown, and WAVY-TV 10 is on your side with an event that will help put food on the tables of families facing food insecurity.

To say the Foodbank is struggling is an understatement. "We've seen about a 10% increase every week over the last two weeks in the amount of people coming to us for help,” said Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore CEO Chris Tan. They were already stretched thin. Traditionally, people think about donating to Foodbanks just before the new year. "The summer is often a lean time and then, as school starts, we get a little bit more and of course, the holiday season, it ramps up a lot," Tan said. "We haven't hit that holiday season yet."
