HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) - More than 70 residents and two staff members were evacuated from the Golden Years Assisted Living Facility due to fire inside the building Saturday morning, according to the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue.

Crews noticed smoke inside the building around 4:49 a.m. and determined the fire was confined to a single room at the end of the residential wing. Half of the building is determined to be safe, but residents and staff will not reenter until the fire alarm and suppression systems are restored, says HDF&R.

Two patients were transported to Sentara Careplex Hospital, but for non-fire related care.
