CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCSC) - The ongoing government shutdown is raising concerns about its potential impacts on veterans who receive federal benefits.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture, which oversees the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program or SNAP benefits, sent a letter to states on Oct. 10. The letter warns potential for states to lose program funding in November.
The South Carolina Department of Social Services manages the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP benefits, in the state.
The department issued an alert on Oct. 22, which states the department will not be able to provide federally funded benefits to new and ongoing SNAP households until a resolution happens in Washington, D.C. The halt means over 260,000 households in the state rely on benefits for
