Emporia Lions Club member Bob Grover received an early birthday surprise when fellow members presented him with the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award — one of the highest honors bestowed by Lions Club International.
The award recognizes individuals who demonstrate outstanding humanitarian service and dedication to the ideals of Lionism. Recipients are nominated by their peers and must show a strong commitment to community service through their club activities.
Emporia Lions Club President Mike Petitjean visited Grover’s home Friday to present the plaque and pin. Grover’s years of service to the club include terms as president in 2007-2008, secretary in 2010-2011, and multiple terms on the board of directors. He has been active in several of the club’s fundraising and sight-related projects,
