OMAHA, Neb. —

With ruck sacks packed full of 30 pounds of food donations, participants traveled 12 miles through Omaha.

It's the sixth annual Hike for Hunger. Thirty-eight military members from the Nebraska National Guard, Offutt Air Force Base, and the RWB veterans group participated.

The Hike for Hunger event was created by Nebraska National Guard Sgt. Neil Wesley. He said he got his inspiration from a similar event the Kansas National Guard hosts.

"I think it's very important for us to give back. And even since I served for the state of Nebraska, it always feels good for me to give back to the people in Nebraska," Wesley said.

The hike is challenging, with 30 pounds of food on their backs and 12 miles to go, some areas hillier than others.
