COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - Colorado Springs now has more firefighters protecting the city.

Friday afternoon, 21 trainees graduated from the Colorado Springs Fire Department’s Training Academy.

The graduation was held at New Life Church on Voyager Parkway at 3 p.m.

All 21 of the new firefighters had to complete 18 weeks of training in preparation to become firefighters.

The fire department said that for more than four months, the firefighters in training tested their skills from medical to hazmat to structure fires and everything in between.

This will be the last class for the foreseeable future, as the city recently announced that next year’s training academy will not be taking place due to budget concerns.
