PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - The Portland Bureau of Transportation is working to clear storm drains of fallen leaves to avoid street flooding as heavy rain hits the metro area Friday and Saturday.
Most storm drains along Johnson Creek in the Sellwood neighborhood have been cleared, but some remain blocked by fallen leaves, causing water to flow into streets.
Matthew Tabazzhi, a mail carrier who has delivered mail for more than a decade, said the weather kept most people inside on Friday afternoon.
“It’s really quiet, no one is out today, it’s a really quiet blustery morning,” Tabazzhi said.
Tabazzhi said he relies on Gore-Tex and a good rain hat to weather storms. He also knows how quickly puddles can become hazards when storm drains get blocked.
