ARCOLA, Ill. (WCIA) -- Weighing in at 300 pounds, out of Arcola, make some noise for Luna. She's a 12-year-old Syrian brown bear who now calls Aikman Wildlife Adventure home. Earlier this month, crews rescued her from a facility in New York.
"We spend a lot of time with her, and we see her every single day. We sit with her and make sure she's adjusting well," Heather Keltner, an animal keeper at Aikman's, said.
Part of that includes training and treats with a purpose. The staff members are working on getting Luna more adjusted to her surroundings and "target train" her.
"We hope to have her present her paw through the fence, and we'll be able to do blood draws or vaccinations that way," Keltner said. "I try to look at body condition. I look at her gums and make sure they're a good color
