Nathan Cleary has handed over his grand final crown to Reece Walsh , insisting the star Broncos fullback is now the king of deciders.
Until now, Cleary owned arguably the best 17 minutes of grand final football in NRL history. In 2023 – ironically against Walsh’s Broncos – with his Penrith side trailing by 16 points in the final quarter of the match, he single-handedly dragged them from a no-win situation to the premiership.
Cleary had been indifferent for the first 60 minutes as Brisbane stretched to a 24-8 lead, but was deservedly awarded the Clive Churchill Medal after a scintillating last 17 minutes fired the Panthers to a 26-24 victory, sealing his status as an all-time big-game legend.
Now, though, the four-time premiership winner has anointed Walsh as the best in the business.
