ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) -- St. Petersburg police are cracking down on unlawful e-bike riding on the roads. Thursday night, officers issued 24 citations to a group of more than 50 people riding near downtown.
The group has spoken with the police department before, and said they thought they were doing everything right, until Thursday night. From a police perspective, they said in the last two weeks, three people have died riding e-bikes in the city, and the riders caused their crashes. So you can expect police to be paying close attention to e-bike riders.
The group bike ride Thursday saw one wheelers, scooters, e-bikes, adults, kids, and lots of flashing lights. Some of the riders reached out to 8 On Your Side Friday, saying they felt the stop was excessive.
