CHANDLER, AZ (AZFamily) — A drowning that devastated an East Valley community during the summer has been ruled accidental and after a months-long investigation, new details have been released on what happened.

On June 29, a 4-year-old boy was pulled from the Hamilton Aquatic Center just after 8 p.m. during a private event hosted by the First Baptist Church of Chandler. More than 100 people were there and the facility was fully staffed with 18 lifeguards.

The victim’s father first realized something was wrong when he saw his 6-year-old daughter come out of the pool, and she told him she did not know where her brother was. Police records state the boy was only in the play pool that went from zero feet to 2′6″ deep.
