Jerome Ross III ran rampant in Friday night’s win at Newport.
The senior running back rushed for 307 yards on 23 carries to lead Steel-High to a 46-30 win over Newport in Mid-Penn Capital Division play.
The Rollers trailed 3-0 after the first quarter. But Ross’ 99-yard touchdown run early in the second quarter proved to be a game-changer.
Ross scored three touchdowns, two on the ground and another via a 80-yard kickoff return.
Kayden Cole Stephens (14-77) and Jaishawn George also ran for TDs for the Rollers.
Newport’s Zach Bates scored a TD on a 30-yard interception return. He also threw two TD passes and completed six passes (6-for-12) for 116 yards.
Steel-High concluded the regular season second in the Mid-Penn Capital (7-1) and is 7-2. Newport fell to 3-5 MPC and 4-6 overall.
