HUNTINGTON BEACH — Mission Viejo football coach Chad Johnson was the first to acknowledge that his Diablos weren’t at their best in their Alpha League game against Edison on Friday at Huntington Beach High School.
But with Ohio State-bound quarterback Luke Fahey guiding the offense, a talented group of receivers and a stingy defense, the Diablos had all the resources they needed for a 37-20 victory over the Chargers.
The Diablos (8-1, 2-0), who are ranked No.1 in Orange County, face Los Alamitos in the final game of the regular season Thursday, Oct. 30. The Diablos can lock up first place with a victory and go undefeated in the Alpha League for the second year in a row.
San Clemente came away with a mild upset victory over the Griffins on Friday, spoiling what could have been a showdown
