Creating a lasting community doesn’t happen by accident. It takes courage, conviction and a willingness to engage, even when it’s uncomfortable. Few people embodied that spirit more than Carrie Getty Scheid.
Carrie believed that politics was not something to sit out or scorn from a distance. She made the case, time and again, for why everyone should participate. She understood that democracy only works when people show up, listen to one another and lean in, even when it means engaging with people who hold very different views. Carrie stayed engaged to the very end, modeling the kind of thoughtful, compassionate civic leadership that makes communities thrive.
