Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) has cleared an Ontario Provincial Police officer in a 2024 shooting on Highway 401 near Cambridge.
The incident occurred Nov. 29, 2024 after police received a report of a domestic disturbance that saw one occupant jump out of a moving pickup truck.
Officers were sent to find the vehicle after a caller reported that other passengers had placed the injured person back in the truck, saying everything was fine.
Fearing a possible abduction, the SIU’s report says officers decided to conduct a “high-risk takedown” when the truck was located on the eastbound 401 near Homer Watson Boulevard.
Officers boxed the vehicle in. Moments later, one officer fired a single shot through the truck’s windshield, striking the 46-year-old driver in the arm.
