CHICAGO (WLS) -- A woman was shot and critically injured while standing on a South Side street on Friday evening, Chicago police said.

Police said the shooting happened in the Washington Park neighborhood just before 6:30 p.m.

The 43-year-old woman was standing near West Garfield Boulevard and South Lafayette Avenue when someone fired shots, striking her in the body multiple times, police said.

The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition.

Police are searching for the shooter, and Area One detectives are investigating.
