BAY CITY, MI – Even after serving 42 years in the military, running a restaurant is not an easy task, but it’s a rewarding one for Henry “Hank” Ryan.

The Broadway Family Grill owner strives to create a space for families to enjoy a meal and a sense of community.

The restaurant at 2020 Broadway St. has been under Ryan’s management since June 2023, after originally opening as Broadway Grill in January 2023 .

Ryan took over the establishment in June 2023 and reopened that September, he said.

It was important to him to add the word “family” into the name of the restaurant to make it extra clear that it’s a place for families.

“They come in here and say, ‘Oh we’re so sorry for being so loud,’’ and I say, ‘Hey, it says family on the billboard,’” Ryan said. “I’ve never been to a family fun
