Coastal Andhra Pradesh is bracing for intense weather activity as Cyclone Montha, named by Thailand, gathers strength in the Bay of Bengal.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the system to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm and make landfall near Kakinada on October 28, between Machilipatnam and Kalingapatnam.

Currently positioned southeast of Visakhapatnam, the depression is expected to evolve into a deep depression by October 26 and a cyclonic storm by October 27. Wind speeds are projected to reach 90–100 kmph, gusting up to 110 kmph.
