Maryland Gov. Wes Moore is warning that the federal government shutdown may lead to the suspension of Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits for state residents.

In a statement, Moore said the Trump administration directed the state of Maryland not to issue SNAP benefits. He added that the administration is choosing not to release contingency funding for the program.

“SNAP benefits are likely not to be deposited on EBT cards beginning Nov. 1 and 680,000 Marylanders who rely on SNAP to eat — including nearly 270,000 children — stand to go hungry,” Moore said.
