Two people were killed and several others were critically injured when gunfire broke out at a large weekend party in southeastern North Carolina, the Associated Press (AP) reported, citing local authorities.

Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins said in a statement that 13 people were shot at a gathering in a rural area outside Maxton, about 95 mile (150 kilometre) southwest of Raleigh near the South Carolina border.

“There is no current threat to the community as this appears to have been an isolated incident,” the sheriff’s office said, according to AP.
