CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A student was hit by a car near Cartersville High School Friday morning when they were allegedly “running from administrators,” according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

They said the student went across U.S. 41 near Church Street when he “ran into the side of a utility trailer that was being towed by a pickup truck,” GSP said.

The 17-year-old high school student was not identified. He was taken to the hospital with “serious injuries” to one of his legs, they said.

School officials said the investigation is being handled by the Georgia State Patrol. It occurred off campus, they said.
