ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Drug overdose deaths have increased dramatically in the United States over the past few decades, reaching a record of nearly 108,000 in 2022, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse .

That’s why the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) hosts National Prescription Drug Take Back Days. Too often, excess prescription medication is abused, the DEA said. During take back days, the public can anonymously drop off unnecessary medications at several locations, where they will be safely disposed of.
