PEORIA, Ill. – A fire in a vacant home in Peoria caused roughly $40,000 damage early Saturday morning.

Fire Battalion Chief Mike Ralston says crews arrived at approximately 7:13 a.m., finding heavy smoke and fire coming from a single-story home on E. Behrends Avenue, near N. Atlantic.

Firefighters cut a hole in the roof to release heat and smoke. The fire was brought under control with an aggressive interior attack.

No firefighter injuries were reported.

Preliminary investigations suggest the fire was intentionally set. The fire is being investigated as a possible arson.
