SANTA MONICA, Calif. (KABC) -- Two pedestrians were killed Friday night in a hit-and-run collision in Santa Monica. The driver involved in the crash fled on foot and remained at large, authorities said.

Santa Monica Police Department officers responded at 9:15 p.m. to the 1300 block of Wilshire Boulevard, between Euclid Street and Euclid Court, the agency said.

"Preliminary information indicates the involved vehicle was traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Wilshire Boulevard when it drove onto the sidewalk and struck the four pedestrians," the Police Department said in a statement.

Two were taken to a hospital by Santa Monica Fire Department firefighter-paramedics and are expected to survive. The names of the two people who died at the scene were not immediately released.
