IRONTON, Ohio — The Ohio High School Athletic Association suspended Ironton High School from this year’s football playoffs after investigators found recruiting violations dating to 2018.

The Ironton Board of Education said Thursday that the OHSAA determined district coaches engaged in improper recruiting in 2018, 2019 and 2025. The ruling also suspends three coaches from next year’s playoffs and places Ironton’s football program on probation through the 2027-28 school year.

The board said it was “deeply disappointed” in the decision and emphasized that the violations unfairly impact players who did nothing wrong. Ironton will not be eligible for postseason play this year, reshaping the Division V playoff picture.
