No. 6 Brenham’s defense wasn’t perfect Friday night.
And yet, a final defensive stop in the Cub Stadium end zone made sure unbeaten Brenham would remain that way on its homecoming night.
Brenham forced a turnover on downs with 10 seconds remaining and thwarted a Killeen Ellison comeback to secure a 33-25 victory to remain atop District 10-5A-II.
The Cubs improved to 8-0 overall and 3-0 in district play, and secured a playoff spot for a 22nd consecutive year. Brenham is also off to its best start since the 2011 Cubs went unbeaten until the postseason.
The Cubs defense made certain Brenham’s flawless season would continue.
“We made the plays when we needed to right there at the very end,” Brenham coach Danny Youngs said. “I was really proud of them.”
