VAN ALSTYNE, Texas (KTEN) -- On Christmas morning in 1921, an electrical fire burned Van Alstyne's Interurban railway station to the ground.

With it -- a coveted popcorn machine.

"Wood, fire, smoke and corn from the popcorn machine wouldn't been in the air all Christmas morning," Steve Dowling, co-founder of Dowling Distillery, said.

Over 100 years later, Steve Dowling and his son Nick are tributing the past in the way they best know how.

"This bourbon," Steve said, holding the bottle, "conflagrate, is the storyline that gives us that opportunity."

Flavored with notes of the fateful day's air, the spirit connects the city's past with the present.

"It's not a word that most people are familiar with today," Steve said. "It just simply means a large fire."
