Mitchell Mesenbrink added a U-23 World title to his impressively expanding resume on Saturday, winning the 74-kilogram weight class at the championship tournament in Novi Sad, Serbia.
Penn State teammates Luke Lilledahl and Levi Haines will vie for world titles of their own at noon Sunday at 57kg and 79kg, respectively. Josh Barr at 92kg was forced to withdraw from the repechage round for a bronze medal. And Penn State freshman PJ Duke will compete for a bronze medal at 70kg on Sunday.
Marcus Blaze (65kg) and Rocco Welsh (86kg), the sixth and seventh members of the Penn State team who make up the USA squad, will compete on Sunday and Monday.
Mesenbrink, who scored the winning takedown in his Friday semifinal with 1.5 seconds left, was barely challenged against Muhammed Ozmus of Turkey,
