Transforming two hectares of Welland’s St. George Park into a wetland will happen next year, said parks manager Dave Steven.
In a recent council information package, he said additional technical requirements, such as outlet design, pond dewatering, and fish salvage for the project, extended the timeline, and he anticipated construction to begin next spring or summer.
In late February, city councillors approved the project pitched by Stuart McPherson, Niagara Peninsula Conservation Authority (NPCA) restoration specialist, and Geoffrey Verkade, senior manager of integrated watershed strategies.
