My premise proved true the other evening at our bridge dinner group. No, we don’t eat dinner under a bridge.

I was comfortably seated in a corner near the hors d’oeuvres (my usual spot) when the conversation turned to the common usage of “vetted.”

As I cast a glance around the room I noted four veterans of the U.S. military so assumed in one sense of the word the gathering was “vetted.”
