Keren Tang wasn’t sure what her first order of business might be if she was re-elected to Edmonton city council. She knows now.

From grass fires to noise complaints, issues with Diwali celebrations in Edmonton getting out of hand have ebbed and flowed over the last several years — but after a southeast Edmonton family had their home severely damaged by a fire that was started by sparks from fireworks, Tang said the city needs to take stronger action against people using fireworks illegally.

“Please don’t (set off fireworks) in your driveway, or on the streets in your neighbourhood. It’s really dangerous and it’s reckless,” Tang, the councillor for Ward Karhiio, in a phone interview with Postmedia on Friday.
