A 56-year-old British tourist has died in the Canary Islands after plunging nearly 20ft when the railing of a hotel 'gave way'.
Another holidaymaker, aged 54, also fell and was left seriously injured in the same incident in the resort of Costa Teguise, Lanzarote early this morning.
The 56-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene, while the other was seriously injured and rushed to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, where they remain in a critical condition.
The incident is reported to have unfolded around 1.30am, when emergency services received reports that two people had fallen from a 'considerable height' inside a hotel. Members of the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), local police and Spanish Civil Guard were sent to the scene.
