BRAINTREE – Saturday’s matchup between Thayer Academy and St. Mark’s was perfect for fans who like physical, hard-nosed football.
Strong defensive line play from both sides kept the game low scoring, but a second-quarter interception returned for a touchdown and a lengthy fourth-quarter drive provided all the offense Thayer needed to pull off a 14-0 upset victory over the previously unbeaten Lions.
“They’re a hungry bunch,” Thayer head coach Jeff Toussaint said. “We’ve been stacking good practices, and they came out intense. They had this game marked.”
This was the second shutout the Tigers (4-2) have had in the last three weeks and they were able to hold the Lions (5-2) to just 57 total yards of offense. This was against a St. Mark’s team that had outscored opponents 139-30 in its firs
