MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — One of downtown Mobile’s biggest annual events got a new twist this year.

Dozens of people took part in a competitive 5K run to kick off this year’s “Making Strides Against Breast Cancer” event. Thousands more crowded downtown Mobile for the annual walk.

The event brings together cancer survivors, their family members and friends who support them. “Making Strides” has become an annual tradition that attracts people from all walks of life.

"I think the fact that one in eight women are impacted by breast cancer is just really working everybody up to this," said Senior Development Manager with the American Cancer Society, Suzannah Weeks.
