EAST LANSING – The Paul Bunyan Trophy is heading back to Ann Arbor to continue an extended stay.

No. 25 Michigan rode its defense and rushing attack for a 31-20 win at Michigan State on Saturday night in the 118th installment of the rivalry.

The Wolverines (6-2, 4-1 Big Ten) struck first, overcame a few pushes by the Spartans (3-5, 0-5) and relied on their 1-2 backfield punch to secure a fourth straight win in the series. That’s the longest streak in the rivalry for either side since Michigan took six in a row from 2002-07

Justice Haynes, who missed last week’s win against Washington due to injury, returned to the lineup and racked up 152 yards and two touchdowns on 26 carries. Jordan Marshall added 15 rushes for 110 yards and a score.
